Obituary for Charles Zell Mitchell III

Charles Zell Mitchell III was born January 3, 1950 in Vernon, Texas to Loda Lucille Black and Charles Zell Mitchell II. His parents preceded him in death. Charles passed away on January 29, at the age of 69, due to heart failure.

Charles proudly served as a United States Marine from 1968 through 1973. He joined the Corps at 17 years old. He literally came of age in a "Free Killzone Vietnam'. Charles received numerous awards; Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Vietnam Service Medal with Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, Combat Action Ribbon National Defense medals. Charles earned his GED while serving in the military.

In 1973, Charles moved to Pasadena and soon considered himself a Pasadenan. Charles worked several jobs, but focused mainly on retail. Charles was an avid New Orleans Saints fan, and was less than interested in this year's Super Bowl. He also considered himself a true Lakers fan, even though he was mad at the current team members. Charles always wanted to take long drives and one of his special locations was Mount Wilson.

In 1994, Bianca and Charles met and became friends. Charles captured her heart and trust in 1996, and on September 24, 1998, they were married with Michael standing at their side. Charles immediately became a fixture with Bianca at all family gatherings and considered himself an honorary Riddle.

Charles believed in God, but after the Vietnam War, he was wary. It wasn't until he met Bianca that God became the center point of his life. In 2009 ,Charles and Bianca began searching for a church home. In late 2012, Justin invited them to Fellowship Monrovia, where they truly felt accepted and became members.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Bianca V. Mitchell, son, Michael Wilson, first cousins Dale Carmouche, Carmen Carmouche, Regina Carmouche, his sister and brother in-law Edgar and Phlunte Riddle, their three sons Ralph (wife Aoife), Eric (wife Andrea), Justin (wife Renee) great-nephew Elijah Riddle, great-niece Elyse Riddle, sister-in-law Thyais Walsh, brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Gerrie Carson, and a host of nieces and nephews Charles' sister of the heart Lugene, his two god-daughter's Amber and Vanessa. Charles loved and embraces these children of his heart, Varon Green, James Boykin, Candice Crutcher, Rita Johns, Maya Green, Leah McDonald, Andrea Tarrant, and cousin's Jess and Stephanie Bass as well as a host of many loved friends.
